Live Streaming Your Graduation, Conference or Ceremony

Live streaming a graduation or conference sounds simple until you are the one explaining to remote family why the feed dropped during the one moment they tuned in for. A few things are worth knowing before you book it.

What is actually being streamed

A proper stream is not a phone propped on a tripod — it is a dedicated camera and audio feed, mixed and pushed out live, usually with a short buffer to smooth over any hiccups before they reach viewers. For a graduation, that generally means a clean shot of the stage plus clear audio of names being read, which matters more to a remote viewer than any wide shot of the room.

Planning it in

Live streaming needs to be scoped at the same time as the rest of the production — venue Wi-Fi or a mobile data plan strong enough to sustain it, where the stream link gets shared, and whether the recording is kept afterwards for anyone who missed it live.

  • Confirm venue connectivity early — this is the single biggest point of failure
  • Decide who receives the stream link and how far in advance
  • Ask whether the recording is retained after the event, not just the live feed

Part of a bigger production

Live streaming sits alongside staging, AV and photography as part of the same OnPoint Studios production team — it does not need a separate supplier or a separate schedule. It works the same way for a formal as it does for a graduation or a large corporate event.
